Caldecott Primary School, Abingdon	Friends of Caldecott
	The Friends of Caldecott Primary School are a group of parents and staff who raise funds for the school to spend on items which otherwise could not be afforded from the school budget. ‘The Friends’ is essentially a Parent Teacher Association (PTA), the only difference is that being ‘Friends’ rather than a ‘PTA’ means that friends and relations such as grandparents and other members of the local community can be members of the committee. The Friends is a registered charity (no. 1104594) and can claim tax back on any gift aided donations.
	A number of fundraising schemes are operated during the course of a year, these include fundraising catalogues, raffles, Caldecott gifts bearing the school logo, sponsored events, and helping with the Abingdon Lions Christmas Float. The children particularly enjoy the discos and non-uniform days and the two main highlights of a year are the Summer and Christmas Fairs. The Friends raise approximately £5,000 a year which contributes towards new books for the library, specific equipment throughout the school, gardening supplies, treats and parties, and helping to fund the school productions, along with subsidised school trips. African drums and new library furniture have also been purchased.

In addition to raising money, The Friends collect vouchers which can be exchanged for particular items. These include Tesco Computer Vouchers and Sports Vouchers, Sainsburys Active Kids Vouchers for sports equipment and Nestle Box Tops for books or cash.

The Friends committee is always very keen to have new members and helpers. The meetings are held approximately six times a year and are usually held straight after school on Tuesdays. A crèche is run in the nursery while the meetings are in progress to allow people to attend the meetings. The AGM is held in October when the new committee is confirmed and the accounts are published. New members are welcome to join at any time and any help, no matter how small, is always appreciated.
