Blue Swan
Caldecott Primary School, Abingdon
Language Resource Base

At the Caldecott Language and Communication Resource Base there are places for 24 primary school children who come from Oxford City, the south and the centre of the county. They are grouped in 2 classes, each with teachers and teaching assistants.
The children share playtimes, dinner time, assemblies, and some curriculum activities as appropriate with children in Caldecott classes for them.

Classes are of mixed ability. Teaching may be either whole class, or group work within the class, depending on the demands of the subject.

Language disorder and severe speech difficulties can cause a variety of significant learning problems and these are identified by teachers and therapist working closely together, sometimes with help from other agencies such as educational psychologists. Each child has their own language programme and receives intensive speech therapy, either in the classroom or on a withdrawal basis, both individually and in paired and group situations.
