Welcome to your final year at Caldecott Primary School. We know you are all excited to be starting in Year 6 as a Puffin.
Your teachers are Mrs Watson; who works on a Monday and Tuesday and Mrs McCluskey-Hornbuckle; who works on a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. We are so happy to have you all back in school with us and are extremely impressed with how you have settled into the new routines and systems which have been put in place at school to keep you all safe.
This term our topic is called 'Home Front Heroes' and focuses on the impact World War II had on the lives of people in Britain. We will be looking particularly at the role of women and children in the war - and finding out about some heroes too. These include the British spy, Noor Inayat Khan and the British teenager (just 13 years of age) Hazel Hill.
During the year, we will study many other exciting topics including 'I Wonder...', 'Justice for Jim', 'Journeys', 'Meeting the Challenge' and 'Moving on Up'. We will start our topics with a WOW day, which is always a great way to begin to learn about something new, and end with an exciting event. This term, we had an 'Evacuee Day' to kick start the topic and will end it with a VE celebration party.
Our main aim in Puffins is to be kind to one another, to be respectful and to always aim high. To help us achieve this, we have three core values to guide us. They are:
These are important to us and help us to be the best we can be.
We love getting lost in a new book and enjoy that feeling of having an adventure around every corner. You have all made an excellent start with your reading by doing your five reads and completing your entries in your reading journals so keep up the great work. We have some fantastic books to study in class this year. They include: Goodnight Mister Tom, Wonder, Street Child, No Ballet Shoes in Syria and a graphic novel version of Macbeth.
Our PE days are Tuesdays and Thursdays and we also complete the daily mile run each day. This term, in PE, we are doing cross country and a WWII dance which we will then perform at our VE Day Celebration Party at the end of term.
We are extremely proud of how seamlessly you have adapted to the changes so far so well done to you all - what a great start! Let’s look forward to having a fantastic final year together.
